OBJECTIVES

With the remarkable advances made in computer and communication hardware/software system technologies, we can now easily obtain large volumes of multimedia data through advanced computer networks and store and handle them in our own personal disk devices. Sophisticated and integrated multimedia content processing technologies, which are essential to building a highly advanced information based society, are attracting ever increasing attention in various service areas, including broadcasting, publishing, medical treatment, entertainment, and communications. The prime concerns of these technologies are how to acquire multimedia content data from the real world, how to automatically organize and store these obtained data in databases for sharing and reuse, and how to generate and create new attractive multimedia content using the stored data. This conference will bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and public agencies to present and discuss recent advances in the acquisition, management, retrieval, creation, and utilization of large amounts of multimedia content. Artistic and innovative applications through the active use of multimedia content are also subjects of interest. The conference aims at covering the following particular areas:

DYNAMIC MEDIA CONTEST

AMCP'98 will offer foremost researchers, artists and content designers in the multimedia field an opportunity to present their original work to participants world-wide. Demonstrations will include technologies and research prototypes as well as artistic products using interactive media. There are two tracks for the contest.

Network Media Contest Track:

This track is for demonstrations that can be accessed over a network --- for instance, products which use VRML or JAVA, and multi-user network games.
Exhibition Contest Track:
In this track, demonstrations with advanced interactive techniques will be done by actual installation.
There are more than 10 attractive and unique demonstrations in the Contest, and we believe that you will find all of them interesting from both an artistic and technological point of view! All visitors, as well as the screening committee members, can vote on both tracks. Excellent demonstrations will be awarded prizes. We are looking forward to your participation in the vote!
